Privacy Policy
Effective April 10, 2026
Manuscribe ("we," "us," "our") operates the manuscribe.com website and application. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it.
Questions? Email us at hello@manuscribe.com.
1. What we collect
Account information
Name and email address when you create an account. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
Billing information
Payment details are collected and processed by Stripe. We do not store credit card numbers. We receive your subscription status and billing history from Stripe.
Manuscript content
The text you write in Manuscribe is stored on our servers so you can access it from any device. Your manuscript text is also sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) to power features like editorial feedback, auto-catalog, and import processing.Your content is never used to train AI models (see Section 3).
Usage data
We collect usage data such as pages visited, features used, and device/browser type to improve the product. This data is associated with your account. We use PostHog for analytics.
2. How we use your information
- Provide the service — store and sync your manuscripts, process payments, send transactional emails (sign-in links, receipts)
- AI-powered features — send manuscript text to our AI provider for editorial feedback, auto-catalog, and import processing (see Section 3)
- Improve the product — understand which features are used and fix bugs using analytics
- Communicate with you — respond to support requests, send product updates if you opt in to marketing emails
We do not sell your personal information. We use Google Ads conversion tracking to measure the effectiveness of our advertising. This means Google receives data about actions you take (such as signing up) linked to ad clicks that brought you to Manuscribe. We do not share your name, email, or manuscript content with Google for advertising purposes.
3. AI and your manuscripts
This is the section most authors care about, so we want to be direct:
- Your manuscripts are never used to train AI models. Our AI provider (OpenAI) does not use data submitted through their API for model training.
- When your text is sent to OpenAI. Manuscribe uses AI in two ways: (1) when you explicitly request editorial feedback, and (2) automatically for features like auto-catalog (detecting characters, places, and objects in your scenes) and import processing (organizing your manuscript into chapters and scenes). Both send manuscript text to OpenAI for analysis.
- We send only what's needed. We send manuscript text and minimal context (such as outline notes for a scene). We may also send your name for personalization. We do not send your email address or billing information to OpenAI.
- Retention. OpenAI retains API data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, then deletes it. Manuscribe stores records of AI interactions (such as feedback results and processing status) as part of your account data for as long as your account is active.
- AI provides feedback, not prose. Manuscribe's AI features analyze your writing and provide editorial commentary. They do not ghostwrite text into your manuscript.
4. Who we share your information with
We share your information only with the service providers we need to operate Manuscribe:
| Provider | Purpose | Data shared |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database & authentication | Account info, manuscript content |
| Vercel | Hosting | Request logs (IP, user agent) |
| Stripe | Payments | Billing info, email |
| OpenAI | AI editorial feedback | Manuscript text excerpts |
| PostHog | Product analytics | Usage events, account ID |
| Google Ads | Advertising conversion tracking | Ad click IDs, conversion events |
| HubSpot | Email & CRM | Name, email |
We do not share your information with anyone else unless required by law (such as a valid court order).
5. Cookies
- Authentication cookies — keep you signed in across sessions
- Analytics cookies — PostHog uses cookies and localStorage to track product usage tied to your account
- Advertising cookies — if you arrive via a Google ad, we set a first-party cookie (_gcl_aw) to record the ad click ID. This cookie is used by Google Ads to attribute conversions (such as signing up) back to the ad that brought you here. It expires after 90 days.
6. Data retention
- Account & manuscript data: retained while your account is active. If you want your data deleted, email us at hello@manuscribe.com and we will delete it from our systems within 30 days. Some data may persist in third-party provider systems per their own retention policies.
- AI processing: OpenAI retains API data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, then deletes it. Manuscribe retains records of AI interactions as part of your account data.
